"It was an old-school 1950s ranch house in Beverly Hills and I was going for a more contemporary look," says designer Erinn Valencich, who used subdued texture and glamorous fixtures to transform a tiny, outdated bathroom. "We spend a lot of time in the bathroom, whether it’s getting ready in the morning or winding down at night," she says. "So you want an accessible space that’s not overly fussy."
For the oversize shower space, which features a floor-to-ceiling wall of glass that frames a garden view, Valencich installed a Kohler DTV system that allows for steam, sound, and temperature to be programmed to suit personal preferences. Ann Sacks Stingray tile, chosen for its darker hue, underscores the transparent quality of the glassed-in view to the outdoors. Adjacent white-lacquer vanities are raised above the floor for a floating effect, and are covered in sand-colored marble that Valencich says was hard to find—"It’s not easy to find marble that’s not blotchy or ordinary." Robert Sonneman–designed sconces in polished chrome lend another weighty, yet elegant note. With her articulated neutral palette and Hollywood Regency–inspired details, it’s clear that Valencich’s oeuvre is anything but expected.
