Subject: Quail Lodge
For years I visited Monterey Peninsula on business during the Concours d’Elegance weekend, and I vowed to one day bring my family there for a vacation. This past August, that longstanding promise finally came to fruition with a two-night stay at Quail Lodge [www.quaillodge.com] in Carmel, Calif What an exceptional experience. I’ve stayed in high-profile hotels and resorts before only to find accommodations and service that didn’t meet expectations. At the Quail, we were treated to a spacious suite that featured extremely comfortable furnishings. The property itself was stunning, especially the meticulously kept grounds, which were lush and inviting, even for non-golfers like us. The staff made us feel extremely welcome and appreciated. And a wonderful touch, which won our hearts immediately, was the welcoming baskets—one for us and one for our beloved Yorkshire terrier!

The Hotel Costa Verde [www.costaverde.com, in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica] is a very interesting property that could use some upgrades to become a five-star resort. The rooms need work, but the service and restaurant and physical layout are superb. And the beaches are spectacular.

Subject: Del Dotto Vineyards
I recently had the opportunity to take a tour of the Del Dotto Vineyards [www.deldottovineyards.com] in Napa and sampled many great wines. The standout was the 2006 Connoisseur Series Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, which I especially liked because of its bold flavor and elegance. If Collection readers find themselves in Napa, a visit to Del Dotto is an exceptional experience. A tasting of this Connoisseur Series is equally as memorable.
