Musical Instruments: Blowin’ in the Wind

"I would rather model harmonica holders than discuss aztec [sic] anthropology, english [sic] literature, or history of the united nations [sic]," wrote Bob Dylan. Demonstrating his passion for the rectangular wind instrument, these words first appeared on the back of Dylan’s fifth studio album, Bringing It All Back Home. Although his harping skills never quite matched the genius of his politically charged lyrical arrangements, Hohner—a 151-year-old musical instrument manufacturer—found it fitting to honor the 2008 Pulitzer Prize Special Citation recipient with a set of seven Marine Band harmonicas.

Each harp—tuned in keys A, B, C, D, E, F, and G—is played and hand-signed by Dylan before being placed in an inlaid ebony display case. Also included is a photo of Dylan, modeling his harmonica holder. Limited to 25 sets worldwide, the Bob Dylan Collection ($25,000) is sold exclusively through Sam Ash Music with a letter from Clayman Edwards, the president of Hohner, to confirm authenticity.
