Paul Schick
Paul Schick’s work exists at the intersection of fine art and nature, a highly unlikely locale for a Los Angeles–based artist. His abstract compositions in twigs defy conventional categories assigned by gallery owners and provide an excellent complement to a wide variety of art and decor. Schick’s “twig constructions” could just as easily appeal to a collector of contemporary art as to an aficionado of naive Americana. In fact, they have found homes in decors as diverse as minimalist lofts and traditional mansions. Schick’s work has also proven popular with corporate clients who have installed his pieces in hotels, restaurants, day spas, and country clubs.(Click images to enlarge)

Schick first started crafting twig constructions after graduating from the Otis Art Institute of the Parsons School of Design in 1987. His work has evolved into sophisticated wall hangings of twigs ingeniously arranged in round, square, and woven patterns. The round and square patterns can be ordered in virtually any dimension, and each piece is unique. They can be displayed either as individual pieces or in groups. Likewise, constructions in the woven pattern can be arranged in a serial pattern to create a fluid wall sculpture. Schick also produces pieces from palm fronds with a more three-dimensional quality, and vases veneered in birch bark. As a fine artist, he is open to interesting commissions. Schick’s inimitable style has secured features in magazines such as Elle Decor and Town & Country, and inclusion on the Will & Grace set. Schick is even eco-friendly, joking that no trees are harmed in the creation of any twig construction.
