Location: Along Mexico’s Caribbean coastline and just 10 minutes from Playa del Carmen, the Viceroy is the latest addition to the Mayakoba Resort in Riviera Maya.Background: Developed by OHL, the 1,600-acre Mayakoba Resort is an eco-sensitive community encompassing five freestanding hotels and a Greg Norman championship golf course. The Viceroy Mayakoba Resort and Residence, developed by the Kor Group, offers a total of 164 residences on either a private beachfront or lagoon location. The hotel also has a 12,000-square-foot spa and wellness center and beach club with a waterfront restaurant and private cabanas.
Design: Featuring architecture by Legorreta + Legorreta and interiors by Kelly Wearstler, each home is furnished in a style that combines local accents and modern beachside chic.
Green: To reduce environmental impact, the resort consulted the Mayakoba Environmental Advisory, and was built with minimal interference to the natural habitat using socoleo, an ancient Mayan method for sustaining balance. Electric water taxis provide transportation to residents.
