On the Market: The Ritz-Carlton Club, Bachelor Gulch, Colorado

Location: Nestled mid-mountain within a gated community on Beaver Creek Mountain, the ski-in/ski-out development is part of the 180-room Ritz-Carlton resort, located 10 miles west of Vail.

For Sale: The club opened in November 2002 and sold all of its original 648 shares in the 54 units by December 2005. Approximately 90 resale fractional shares are currently available.

Design: The resort is designed in the spirit of historic national park lodges, and at 600,000 square feet, it is the largest all wood–clad structure in North America (the wood came from trees in Montana and Wyoming that had fallen down naturally). The two- and three-bedroom fractional residences range from 1,500 to 2,000 square feet and feature moss-rock fireplaces and natural wood accents.

Building Amenities: Owners have access to all hotel amenities, which include the 23,000-square-foot spa, swimming pool, health club and the seven food and beverage options—including Wolfgang Puck’s new Spago, which will also provide room service. Additionally, the Ritz-Carlton Club has an amenities agreement with Vail Resorts, developer of the ski mountain, in which members have access to the private Bachelor Gulch Club and the private mountaintop restaurant, Zach’s Cabin. In the winter, members are given up to eight adult lift tickets each day they are in residence; in the summer, they are offered a 50 percent discount on the $240 rounds of golf at the nearby Red Sky Ranch golf course.

What Sets It Apart: "There are other ski developments in the area that may offer similar accommodations, but no one includes the amenities package we have, and our link to the hotel allows us to offer a lot of services that smaller developments can’t," says John Santaniello, general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Club, Bachelor Gulch. "The Rocky Mountain snow is also a huge selling point. They call it ‘champagne powder’ because it’s so light and dry."
