On the Market: Element, New York
November 1, 2007
LOCATION: West 59th Street, between Columbus Circle and the Hudson River.
FOR SALE: The 35-story building, opening in November, will offer 198 one- to four-bedroom residences, as well as townhomes with private outdoor space and penthouses with their own setback terraces.
DESIGN: The units have floor-to-ceiling glass windows, nine-and-a-half-foot ceilings and modern fixtures and fittings. New York–based designer Richard Livingston created the common areas and unit interiors.
BUILDING AMENITIES: Occupying the third level are 12,000 square feet of landscaped grounds with a sundeck, children’s play area and meditation garden. Indoor amenities include a gym, a John Master’s salon and spa, another children’s play area and squash and basketball courts. Additionally, the building has exclusive partnerships with Whole Foods market, which will deliver groceries and cater events through the Abigail Michaels concierge service; and wine merchant Morell and Co. will host a virtual wine cellar where residents can store an unlimited number of bottles, order wine (the store delivers several times a day) and use the Internet to view their collection and research how much it is worth, order additional bottles and request online sommelier services.
WHAT SETS IT APART: "It’s the first building in the city designed from the ground up to function like an urban resort," explains Edward Baquero, managing partner of Coalco New York. "The biggest difference between urban and suburban is grass and trees, so we brought that to the city. You don’t need a weekend home if you live here."
