On The Market: Palm Beach, Florida

March 1, 2007

LOCATION: On 1.5 acres in the estate section of Palm Beach, Florida, close to shopping and dining on Worth Avenue and across from 150 feet of its own private beachfront parcel.

HISTORY: Inspired by the medieval castles of Europe, Nuestro Paradiso ("Our Paradise") was originally designed and built in 1928 by Julius Jacobs for former Woolworth executive Ellis Z. Nutting. Recently, local builder Bill Elias restored and added modern amenities to the home, but kept its original flooring and coffered ceilings. The house now has impact glass windows and doors, as well as a library, a new kitchen and a breakfast room. (Click images to enlarge)

STATS: The 19,663-square-foot estate features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two dining rooms, staff quarters, and elevator access. The grand entry includes a massive carved double staircase, said to have come from a Roman palazzo, and 50-foot-long grand living room. The upper living area is detailed with barrel-vaulted and muraled ceilings, and a large balcony with ocean views. The home also includes four guest suites, one of which is located in the upper tower, a paneled library with cherry cabinetry, and a formal dining room with a coffered ceiling, oceanside windows in the shape of a ship’s prow and an adjoining smaller dinning area. The redecorated chef’s kitchen offers handcrafted cabinetry, marble counters, antique Italian tile flooring and custom mosaics. Additionally, the estate includes a four-car garage, fountain, pool, tennis court and garden.

WHAT SETS IT APART: "This is an extraordinary property," says Cristina Condon, a broker with Sotheby’s International Realty. "It’s architecturally unique, from the Romanesque fireplace and painted ceilings to the carved cast stone throughout the home. It’s one of a kind and unlike anything you’ll find in this area."

MARKET INQUIRIES: $24 million. Cristina Condon, 561.301.2211, www.palmbeachsir.com, Sotheby’s International Realty, 541.312.5682, www.sothebys.com
