On The Market: Montecito, California
March 1, 2005
You simply can’t construct anything this close to the ocean anymore,” says
broker Rebecca Riskin of a Montecito home abutting the shoreline. One of the 1-acre property’s outbuildings dates from the 1920s, but the main
three-bedroom house is a new construction replacing an earlier structure. The
house is outfitted with reclaimed pine floors, mosaic tiles, custom moldings, a
dehumidifying system and wraparound porches and decks. Every room features
unobstructed views. “There’s an incredibly high level of construction in this
home,” says Riskin. “It’s a luxury home that just happens to be nestled on a
great piece of beach property.”
Additional accommodations include a
two-bedroom guesthouse and guest quarters adjoining a three-car garage; a
secondary two-car garage has been converted to a Pilates studio with a bedroom,
bathroom and kitchen. (Click image to enlarge)
Although it is located between the Four Seasons
Biltmore and Ian Schrager’s $32 million purchase, the Miramar Hotel, the home’s
200-foot beach frontage is well hidden from passersby. “It’s a gated estate at
the very end of a gated lane,” says Riskin. “This isn’t the kind of area where
you'll find strangers lying on the beach in your backyard.
