On The Market: Jackson Hole, Wyoming
January 1, 2005
Nestled between the Gros Ventre mountains and the Tetons, along the Snake
River, Jackson Hole is known as one of the greatest fly-fishing areas in the
United States. “It’s an idyllic American Western town,” says broker Clayton
Andrews. “It’s humble and understated, yet sophisticated. And you’re only
five miles from amazing skiing.”
Comprising 43 acres, Stillwater was built in 1992 from reclaimed 100-year-old
wood culled from Montana log buildings. “The rustic logs and dry stacked moss
stone make it appear as though it’s been there forever, but it was built
recently, so the construction is very stable,” Andrews says.
In harmony with its surroundings, the historically charming timber-and-stone
home, equipped with modern amenities, overlooks a pond. The three-bedroom main
house has Craftsman-style undertones and includes large living spaces, a
late-19th-century-style ranch kitchen and several moss rock fireplaces.
The guest quarters, housed in a private cabin in the woods, consist of two
bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, as well as a living room and kitchen.
The two-story, two-car garage contains a darkroom and a one-bedroom studio on
the second floor. “All three buildings are linked by glass hallways or outdoor
breezeways, which help bring some of the outdoors in,” Andrews says. “The home
was designed by Jonathan Foote, who is a master at this kind of style.” The
neighboring 30 acres are for sale as well. (Click image to enlarge)
