On The Market: Green Valley, California

July 1, 2006

LOCATION: Encompassing 160 acres, 2,259 feet above Napa Valley on the seventh-highest peak in the San Francisco Bay Area. The closest town is Green Valley, an eight-minute drive away.

HISTORY: The home was completed in 2003 by architect Helena Arahuete, successor to the noted John Lautner, who apprenticed with Frank Lloyd Wright. (Click images to enlarge)

STATS: Made solely of concrete, steel, glass and wood, the three-bedroom, 13,500-square-foot home contains no plaster or drywall. Emphasis is placed on large open spaces like the living and dining rooms, which are each over 1,100 square feet. Its circular shape wraps around a central atrium that houses a pond. One of the most stunning features is the indoor-outdoor swimming pool that extends from the deck into the living room, a signature Lautner element.

WHAT SETS IT APART: "The house is named the House Above the Morning Clouds because of its location—there are two well-known peaks in the area called the Twin
Sisters, and this house is on one of them," says Realtor Suzanne Bondi’ Barry. "The most amazing thing about the home is the way the architecture emphasizes the views and opens them up. The homeowners’ main request was that they be able to see both the sunrise and the sunset. You really feel like you’re at the top of the world here." (Click images to enlarge)
