INITIAL OFFERINGS: The Village at Northstar offers everything from studios to four-bedroom condominiums for $600,000 to $3.1 million. At Old Greenwood, only a handful of the 99 single-family homesites remain, starting at $695,000; fractional-ownership shares in two-, three- and four-bedroom luxury cabins and townhouses are available from $50,000 to $180,000. Greenwood also boasts a semiprivate Jack Nicklaus—designed golf course. The Bluffs, one of several communities within Gray’s Crossing, is comprised of 101 single-family homesites, from $175,000 to $399,000, as well as a private golf course and clubhouse. Pending approval is Highlands at Northstar, which will offer 1,400 ski-in/ski-out condominiums and townhomes.

CLUBBING IT: Tahoe Mountain Club offers three different levels of membership–sports, signature or full golf memberships–priced from $25,000 to $75,000 plus monthly dues. Amenities include a dedicated concierge service, planned outings and access to the spa and fitness center, clubhouses, golf courses and private restaurants.

DINING DIVERSIONS: The members-only Alpine Club, which opens in winter 2005, will serve as a gathering place for breakfast and après-ski lounging. The mountaintop Schaffer’s Camp, a ski-in/ski-out restaurant, is a lunchtime hot spot just for members, who can dine around outdoor fire pits and exchange their ski boots for warm slippers (it is open to the public for dinner). Executive chef Dale Ray, who trained under Charlie Trotter and Jean-Louis Palladin, is serving his new menu of American cuisine at Wild Goose, a restaurant overlooking Lake Tahoe’s shores; the eatery is slated to go private soon.

POWER IN NUMBERS: Northstar at Tahoe enjoys 310 days of sunshine and 350 inches of snow annually, plus 2,420 skiable acres and 240 acres of backcountry terrain that is open when conditions permit.

IN THE LOOP: New owners can keep current on construction happenings via My Home, a customer service program that informs homeowners about closings, utilities, construction progress and area associations through a customized web page. New development has created high demand for Northstar real estate, including older properties. Buyers are picking up 1970s condos to renovate for about $750,000.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE: Truckee Tahoe Airport, a five-minute drive from Northstar at Tahoe, accommodates private aircraft all year long. Commercial flights land at the airport in Reno, Nev., a 35-minute drive from Lake Tahoe.
