Amelia IslandJust the facts, ma’am: The island was the birthplace of the modern shrimp industry, and an annual shrimp festival is held in May. The friendly skies: Jacksonville International Airport is 35 minutes away. Private, corporate and charter jets fly into Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport.

Where to buy: Amelia Island Plantation Communities: Ocean Club Drive: Oceanfront single-family homes average $3 million. Long Point: Low Country–style cottages on Long Point’s 18th hole range from $1.3 million to $2.2 million. Heron Oaks: Garden home community nestled in secluded woodland; average $800,000.
