That’s the mantra of Southern California–based Surface Pros, which specializes in custom granite, marble and tile fabrication and installation, while remaining focused on the environment."Our mission is to beautify kitchens and make them healthy," says owner Paul Buster. "Also, it’s a big deal not to deplete the Earth of its materials."
Throughout the demolition, fabrication and installation of countertops, Surface Pros takes steps to minimize its impact on the environment. Within its shop, Surface Pros filters and recycles large amounts of used water. To remedy dust problems, the company installed an air-filtration system. Using mist, dust particles are knocked down before they reach the outdoors. And, naturally, many of the materials the company uses for its projects are eco-friendly.
"We really make an effort to do things right," says Buster. "We go out of our way to push environmentally friendly materials on customers by showing them how great they can look."
Buster, who is in the process of acquiring LEED certification for Surface Pros, goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to conservation. "We’re doing things we don’t have to do to keep the environment safe," he says.
