Letter From the Editor: Experimental Phases
January 1, 2006
When we launched the Robb Report Collection in January 2002, our mandate was
to make a connection between real estate and interior design. No one else was
linking the two industries, and it seemed an obvious way to present the big
picture: Here is an up-and-coming location where you might consider buying a
home; here is an international selection of outstanding houses that are on the
market; and here are some wonderful products with which to furnish your dream
home. (Click image to enlarge)
Real estate and home design may now seem like perfect bedfellows, but four
years ago, magazines covered either one industry or the other. We were venturing
into new territory and had no idea how this strange hybrid would be received. Of
course, with the help of our infallible crystal ball, we knew that the real
estate market was about to explode, and that anything to do with buying property
would become a red-hot topic. (Click image to enlarge)
And so Collection took off (with our companion car issue along for the ride)
and was an instant success. The four-year mark seems like a meager anniversary
to celebrate, especially in light of Robb Report’s 30 years of publishing. But
we are proud of our offspring and honored that we have been recognized as a
leader in our categories. (Click image to enlarge)
Enjoy this special issue, and watch for a face-lift in March. Our real estate
barometer indicates a low-pressure zone ahead. But everyone needs a place to
call home, and we see no reason to change our focus simply because the market is
going through a much-needed correction. We will just do a little nip and tuck.
After all, we hate marching in step. We intend to stay at least two paces ahead
of everyone else.
