Like sitting on a cloudHome theater aficionados will upgrade their technical equipment endlessly, but they want their movie chairs to last a lifetime. So what does it take to make your theater’s sweet spot truly comfortable? (Click image to enlarge)

For reclining, First Impressions has chairs with a power-driven recliner mechanism for auto-tilt back and footrest extension. CinemaTech prefers a nonmotorized gas cylinder control. And Los Angeles interior designer Linda Mendelsohn goes with an independent-motion chair that adjusts to your body. “It doesn’t matter if you are 5'7'' or 6'7'', the chair will feel weightless,” she says.

Articulating headrestsWith upholstery, some people want the feel of an old movie theater seat in velvet or mohair. CinemaTech uses high-grade, triple-stitched European leather. Ultrasuede with a contrasting welt trim is the choice of Mendelsohn, whose clients on both coasts like its warmth, durability and easy maintenance.
