Letter From The Editor: Worshiping at the Automotive Altar
April 2, 2002
When it comes down to it, the automotive landscape would be pretty flat and boring if there weren’t cars that inspire idolatry. One glance at the classifieds in any Sunday paper will grimly confirm that far fewer new makes and models are available today than even 10 years ago. Proponents of natural selection will contend that it’s all for the best, arguing that a world without Corvairs and Yugos and Vegas is a much better world. But wouldn’t it be fun to open the paper, just one Sunday, and see ads for AC, DeTomaso, Iso, Marcos or Triumph? It is grati-fying that we can still encounter them, and a hundred other marques long since gone, at car shows and track events, thanks to a few devoted idolaters.
