Collection Gift Guide: Small Packages

Alessandro Vitelli

December 1, 2005

A 440 hp turbocharged diesel driving a water jet powers the T29 R, and, unlike the rest of the open-exhaust brigade, she is whisper-quiet. Hinckley engineers invented and then patented a JetStick navigation control that facilitates a number of maneuvers: You can “walk” the boat sideways into a tight dock space; you can spin her in her own length; or, once in open water, you can just switch to wheel steering and motor off smoothly with the Nardi wheel in your hands.

The Hinckley Co. is justly famous for building superbly crafted yachts in small numbers. It is no coincidence that the Talaria is named for the stylized Hinckley symbol representing Mercury’s winged feet—whether launching from a megayacht or land-bound cares, the T29 R provides a stylish escape.
