Porsche 911 Carrera 2007

January 1, 2007

To many people the word Porsche and the numerals 911 are synonymous. With good reason, since the rear-engined sports car is now in its fifth decade of production, and still houses a six-cylinder engine in the tail of its now-iconic fastback silhouette. But that’s about all that hasn’t changed since its 1964 debut. The latest iteration features state-of-the art performance served up in a somewhat bewildering array of choices—10 in all—split down the line by two-wheel-drive (Carrera 2) and four-wheel-drive (Carrera 4) variants. Carrera 4 models feature wider, more muscular turbo-look bodies. Both Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 versions come as either coupes or cabriolets, and there is also a sliding-glass-roof Targa model offered with four-wheel drive. All 911s are further subdivided by power train, supplied either as base models with a 325-hp, 3.6-liter, liquid-cooled flat-six engine, or as higher-performance ‘S’ models equipped with a 355-hp 3.8-liter equivalent.
