Maserati Corsa Racer 2007

January 1, 2007

Maserati took full advantage of its relationship with Ferrari to develop the MC12, a closely related but far better-looking version of the Enzo Ferrari, intended to rekindle the Trident marque’s storied, albeit ancient, history of racing prowess. And that it did to a limited extent in the European FIA GT series, but the car was penalized in the American Le Mans series, and withdrew at the end of 2005. Road-going versions of the MC12 were originally offered only to homologate the model for FIA regulations. But now, to celebrate the MC12’s victories, Maserati is offering a build-to-order edition called the Corsa. Total production of this super-exclusive gentleman’s racer will be limited to twelve units worldwide, and it will not be homologated for road use or for any racing series. Rather, it is a special track-day toy and surefire attention getter. With its full carbon fiber bodywork, a stress-bearing, carbon fiber-and-Nomex honey-comb monocoque chassis, and a mid-mounted V-12, the two-seat Maserati boyracer reaches an honest 205 mph top speed and sprints to 60 mph faster than you can say "che bella macchina!"
