Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 2007
January 1, 2007
Lamborghini has built a variety of vehicle types, from four-seat GT cars to a desert-running SUV, but it is the company’s line of scissor-door, V-12-powered wedges that have defined the brand and indeed, the term supercar. With a raft of new supercars plying the streets, even the class-defining Lambo needs the occasional nip and tuck. The exterior changes that turn a Murcielago into the Murcielago LP640 begin up front with a slightly revised air dam, continue on the side with a larger oil radiator air scoop at the rocker panel, and end with new tail lamps, rear bumper cover, and a gigantic single tailpipe. But the most compelling work has gone into the engine. Lambo bored and stroked the motor, up from 6.2 to 6.5 liters. Along with the increased capacity, a new infinitely variable valve timing system and new intake system and engine control electronics have increased horsepower by 60, to 632. Even better, the changes have fattened and flattened the torque curve for better drivability. The open-top Roadster model will still be available but does not receive the LP640 upgrades, at least not this year.
