Chevrolet Corvette 2007
January 1, 2007
The Corvette’s untouchable status became abundantly clear when a change as simple as switching to exposed headlights on the sixth-generation model provoked an uproar from the faithful. Other than a slimmed-down tail aspect, the design of the new coupes and convertibles is not a radical departure from the previous model, but there’s plenty of novelty under the hood. The 400 hp produced by the Corvette’s 6-liter V-8 engine matches that of the outgoing Z06, now good for a zero-to-60 mph time in the low four-second area. A digital HUD (head-up display) is an entertaining addition, providing information not only about speed and rpm, but also about how many lateral g’s you’re pulling through the corners. Although the Corvette lacks the exotic cachet of a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, it delivers a remarkable level of performance for its under-$50,000 price tag. And Chevrolet offers what no Italian marque can: an extensive, nationwide service network.
