Bugatti Veyron 16.4 2007

January 1, 2007

What else can be said of the Veyron? It is simply the most super of supercars. It is the most powerful of any supercar produced by an established maker. It has more cylinders, more turbos, more gears, a more storied name, a higher top speed, and a higher list price ($1 million more than a Lamborghini) than anything out there. Supercars and the companies that build them come and go, but the Veyron will live on as a monument. Maybe the Veyron amounts only to a monument to ego—that of former VW head Ferdinand Piech, the man who conceived the car, or the egos of the 50 people that can purchase one each year. More likely the 987 hp Veyron 16.4 will be remembered as an engineering triumph of staggering proportion. This is a vehicle with a top speed more than 20 mph faster than an Indycar qualifying for the 500—and one that can be comfortably driven to dinner. What else can be said?
