Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 2007
January 1, 2007
Chrysler isn’t being stingy with its Hemi, and last year bestowed the hallowed motor—and the SRT designation—on its corporate cousin, the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Equipped with the 420 hp 6.1-liter V-8, a Grand Cherokee SRT8 will move to 60 mph in under five seconds—Jeep likes to point out that it’s quicker than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, no mean feat. Performance enhancements such as a sport-tuned suspension and 20-inch wheels are designed to handle the extra power. The SRT8’s best-of-both-worlds specifications also include race-bred Brembo brakes and a Dana 44 rear differential designed for off-road applications. Though eminently functional when leaving the pavement, the SRT8 is clearly intended for peak on-road performance: Ride height, for instance, drops by an inch when compared to standard Grand Cherokees. The cabin, meanwhile, has been treated to upgrades like bolstered seating with suede inserts, aluminum trim, and more comprehensive instrumentation.
