Volvo S80 2007
January 1, 2007
Volvo’s S80 flagship sedan enters its second generation with a V-8 engine and a who’s who of audio components. Don’t fret, it’s still a Volvo and thus chock full of the latest and greatest in active and passive safety technologies, including dual-chamber side air bags, a body shaped with four grades of high-strength steel, enhanced anti-whiplash protection in case someone whacks you from behind, and a front end designed to reduce pedestrian injuries should someone walk out in front of you. But the big news is the availability of the V-8 engine already seeing service in the XC90 sport-utility vehicle. However, if 300-plus horsepower seems a bit much for a Volvo, well, it comes with all-wheel drive and there’s also a new 235 hp inline six for the less adventurous. Along with an updated appearance inside and out, the S80 features an up-level audio that combines a 5-by-130-watt Alpine dig-ital amp with Bang & Olufsen PowerHouse processors, Dolby Pro Logic II Surround, and a dozen Dynaudio speakers.
