With 21,400 miles on the odometer, the Cadillac XLR-V has reached the end of its one-year stay with the magazine. During its tenure there were lovers and there were haters, but all the chips will be counted and the final score tallied in the June issue.

19,125—"My six-year-old granddaughter took one look at the car and shouted ‘I want one!,’" writes senior correspondent Paul Dean. "Proof that Cadillac is reaching out to a younger generation."

19,780—"What’s with the four blasts of the horn when exiting the car?" inquires Dean. "A great feature for guys or gals who don’t want their spouses to know what time they got home."

21,000—After a downshift to change freeway lanes, the engine shuts down to about 10 percent power. The car limps safely off the freeway at 20 mph
with a warning light reminding us of reduced power. No kidding.

21,120—"On the good side," writes Dean, "the XLR-V’s power train is a freightliner [when not acting up], styling is extraordinary, and the whole package is a step in the right direction for Cadillac. May the next generation be a flawless stride."

21,400—We have a report from Cadillac on the XLR’s recent troubles. "Inspected all 24 OBD modules. Codes POO68 and Codes PO128 stored in ECM. Remaining modules had 01077 and/or U1024 stored for loss of communications. Codes CO242 set prior to this visit with 250 ignition cycles in between." Bottom line translation: Beats the crap out of us what was wrong with this car. We’ll find out and give a detailed report in June.
