Dodge Charger SRT8 2007
January 1, 2007
Over the last few years, a Mopar renaissance has created a completely new range of models that recall the high-performance history of Detroit’s number three automaker. While the elegant Chrysler 300C owes much to early Virgil Exner designs, the aggressive lines of the Dodge Charger reference muscle cars built during the 1960s and ’70s. Topping the Charger range is the SRT8, which remains true to the muscle car spirit by taking a family sedan and transforming it into a bona fide hot rod. Like the original Chargers, the SRT8 namesake has plenty of potential. Its 6.1-liter Hemi V-8 packs 425 hp, and Dodge says it’s good for a zero-to-60 time of five seconds flat. Handsome Brembo brakes visible inside 20-inch wheels keep a rein on the SRT8’s exertions. Not all of the body’s retro-inspired modifications are stylistic flourishes: The hood scoop on the SRT8 is fully functional.
