Cadillac CTS-V 2007
January 1, 2007
Cadillac’s introduction of the CTS in 2003 was the first volley in an aggressive campaign to reshape the automaker’s image with sharp-edged design and sports-oriented performance. In 2004, the company bolstered its Euro-fighting credibility with the addition of the first V-series hot rod: the CTS-V. Employing the classic muscle car formula, Cadillac dropped extra horsepower—in this case a 400-hp Corvette V-8—into the engine bay, and mated the impressive powerplant to a six-speed manual transmission. So equipped, the CTS-V moves to 60 mph in under five seconds, and stops just as quickly with the aid of big Brembo brakes. Inside, the seats’ suede inserts hold everyone in place during spirited maneuvers. Cadillac kept stylistic alterations to a minimum with a mesh grille, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and discreet V-badges. Originally available only in silver or black, the CTS-V now also comes in red and gray; a sunroof is one of the car’s few options.
