Audi S6 2007

January 1, 2007

So you want a quick sport sedan, but without any telltale boy-racer bodywork and graphics? Have we got a car for you. It’s the Audi S6, complete with a 435 hp V-10 engine and all the trappings of a very naughty four-door sedan. The only visual clues to this car’s specifications are 19-inch wheels and tires, flared wheel housings, some brightwork on the grille, and unusual LED arrays on the front bumper acting as daytime running lights. The S6 comes only with a 6-speed Tiptronic transmission, and as is now common practice with Audi, the Quattro system features a 60 percent rearward torque bias to make the car feel more like a rear driver, but without losing the four-wheel traction. The steel-sprung S6 rides somewhat stiffly on bumpy roads, but its diagonally connected shocks control roll motions extremely well, for a commendably flat ride. If you don’t need all that power and don’t like the price tag, try Audi’s normal A6, available as either a 3.6-liter V-6 or a 4.2-liter V-8.
