Green Machines: Electric: What is your Fétish?
April 1, 2007
Venturi, with a 23-year history of superbly engineered supercars, presented the world’s first electric sports car at the 2004 Paris Auto Show: the curvaceous, carbon fiber–bodied Fétish. The roadster is the brainchild of Venturi’s savior, Gildo Pallanca-Pastor, who rescued the Bugatti brand prior to that. If performance numbers distinguish sports cars, the Fétish’s zero-to-60 mph time of less than five seconds certifies its sports car pedigree. Equipped with a 241 hp electric motor powered by 31 lithium-ion batteries, the Fétish requires from one to four hours for a full recharge. Low-profile Michelin tires surround 18- and 19-inch alloys, promising a sporty ride over a 200-mile range. And with a GPS/DVD system and leather-wrapped, heated Recaro seats, luxury is not forsaken for speed. Only 25 Fétishes will be made, starting at $385,000 and available at dealers in Monaco, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Dubai.
