Morgan Aero 8 2007

January 1, 2007

A strange thing happened at the Morgan Motor Co, a few years ago. After a long history of building what is perhaps the antithesis of the modern sports car, the company suddenly produced the Aero 8. The Aero 8 is a curious blend of advanced chassis design beneath coachwork with origins in the early 20th century. Morgan’s great leap forward is an advanced independent suspension system attached to a bonded and riveted aluminum monocoque chassis. The body is Superform aluminum (a hot-forming process), supported by Morgan’s traditional framework of ash wood. Powered by a 350 hp BMW V-8, the 2,500-pound Aero 8 has a remarkable power-to-weight ratio, providing startling acceleration and excellent road holding. Though some may find the styling challenging, the Aero 8 is a contemporary realization of the traditional Morgan values of light weight and superior acceleration, but with contemporary ride and handling. Although thoroughly modern it is undeniably still a Morgan.
