Maserati GranSport GranSport/GranSport Spyder 2007

January 1, 2007

The GranSport is the sportiest iteration of Maserati’s two-door offered. Evoking the original 1950s GranSport designs out of the Carrozzeria Frua, this modern GranSport edition offers an owner far greater opportunities for customization than do regular models. Externally, both the GranSport coupe and the GranSport Spyder drop-top are distinguished from Maserati’s Coupe GT by a lower front air dam, mesh inserts in the grille and the rear apron, more pronounced side sills, and a rear lip spoiler. Nineteen-inch wheels and a slightly lower ride height are also visual indications that this Maser means business. The GranSport interior is lined with leather but eschews traditional wood for carbon-fiber trim and a carbon-fiber-look fabric called BrighTex. The Ferrari-sourced V-8 is a welcome sight under the hood of a voluptuous Italian GT. It’s mated only to Maserati’s Cambiocorsa paddle-shift transmission, but that recalcitrant gearbox was recently upgraded to provide gearshifts that are 35 percent faster than before.
