Ferrari 612 Scaglietti F1 2007
January 1, 2007
Maligned because of its unusual proportions—okay, its freakishly long nose—the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is nonetheless a brilliant driver’s car. A 5.7-liter V-12 pumping out 540 horsepower is nothing to sneeze at. That relatively long engine is mounted longitudinally, with most of it behind the center line of the front wheels. This makes the Scaglietti a front/mid-engine car, resulting in better weight distribution front to rear but a profile that couldn’t possibly look as graceful as the Ferrari 456 it replaces. The Scaglietti is now available with a GTC Handling Package option to sharpen its dynamics and add a bit of flash to the relatively unadorned body. The package includes polished 19-inch wheels, a shiny sports exhaust, and carbon-ceramic brake discs. With or without the GTC package, the Scaglietti is a big car (only 10 inches shorter than a Hummer H2) that moves like one weighing half as much. At about $100,000 more than the Bentley Continental GT, we suppose it should be impressive.
