Driver's Notebook: Britain's Other Giant Killer

Jan Morgan

August 3, 2004

On the road, the open muffler of our test car had quite a bit of drone, but drivers can opt for earplugs or install a more effective silencer. One pleasant surprise is that the curved windshield makes for a calm interior with far less windblast than the flat-windshield cars that dominate this market segment.

The G20 is sold as a turnkey package by its importer, Moto America Inc., fully finished and ready to drive. There are many options from which to choose, including limited-slip differential with choice of ratios, suspension components, engine power output, and paints. Should a buyer want a more intimate experience in Ginetta ownership, a rolling chassis package is available from about $21,500, which requires sourcing and installation of the Miata engine, transmission, fuel tank, and plumbing, along with the engine management system and other incidental items. Finished and painted bodywork, upholstery, and instrumentation are included in the kit. Complete cars are available from $27,950. (Click image to enlarge)

A racing version is available as well. Offered only in fully finished form, this racer has a full roll cage, Ford Ztec engine and close-ratio gear box, limited-slip differential, and racing tires, and is priced at $29,700.

Most of the small roadsters available to the home builder are very quick, lightweight, and impressive in their overall quality. Also, most are simply excellent clones of one another. The Ginetta stands apart, offering the owner a beautiful design and unique style to match its exceptional dynamics.
