BMW M Coupe 2007
January 1, 2007
A rough-and-tumble counter-point to BMW’s usually polished high-performance cars, the M Coupe—based on the Z4—offers its thrills straight-up in an environment of stiff suspensions and rumbling exhausts. (This will come as no surprise to the owners of Z4s who have experienced aggressively tuned suspensions even in non-M models.) It’s the ideal setup for those who crave a traditional sports car. A 330-hp inline-6 propels the M car to 60 mph in just under five seconds with the assistance of a conventional 6-speed manual transmission, riding on 18-inch wheels. Although the M’s option list is relatively short—it includes basics such as sound systems and heated seats—BMW’s penchant for abbreviated standard specifications makes mundane features such as cruise control an extra item. Odd, but in this case it might have a legitimate rationale: Most M drivers probably won’t use it.
