Specialty Equipment: Yokohama Advan Tires
February 1, 2006
Yokohama has long been known as one of the premier aftermarket suppliers of high-performance tires. Advans, Yokohama’s brand of maximum performance tires, are even used as original equipment by Bentley, Lotus and Lexus, along with specialist tuners Gemballa and Brabus.
The Advan tires feature a unique construction that offers an optimized contact patch for stability and drivability, while a new tread compound ensures maximum adhesion in wet or dry conditions.

I had the opportunity to drive the new line at Infineon Raceway on a variety
of performance cars, including the Bentley Continental GT, Lotus Elise, and
Porsche 911 Carrera 4, and walked away impressed. The tires afford excellent
grip and predictability at the limits of adhesion, even as they heat up over
multiple fast laps.
The updated Advan line starts with the road-legal A048
racing tire, as fitted to the Lotus Elise with a performance suspension option.
Lotus also has selected Yokohama’s best road tire, the Neova, to be the standard
tire for the nimble Elise.
The Advan Sport is the supercar tire. With a speed rating that exceeds 180 mph, it is the standard equipment tire on the 195 mph Bentley Continental GT coupe and Flying Spur sedan. Porsche has also installed the Advan Sport as the standard tire for the 911 Carrera 4.

High-performance tires also are available for SUVs. Designed for sporty SUVs from BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, and Range Rover, the Advan S.T. offers enhanced steering response, cornering grip, and high-speed capabilities.
