A Cadillac dealer recently quipped that he didn’t know why the Escalade came with factory wheels—his customers, he said, invariably installed custom wheels as soon as they took delivery. These days, custom wheels are no longer the domain of enthusiasts or the style-conscious. They’ve gone mainstream, and a set of aftermarket wheels no longer guarantees individuality. Enter Florida-based Champion Motorsport. A subsidiary of Champion Motors—the world’s largest Porsche dealership—Champion Motorsport has developed an array of aftermarket products for Porsches, Ferraris, and Corvettes, among others, and has just unveiled a bespoke service that enables individuals or clubs to order one-off wheel designs. Two options are available. As few as 10 sets (40 wheels) can be ordered in aluminum starting from $750 per wheel, depending on the design. Or, if you really want something no one else has, you can order two sets (eight wheels) in magnesium, from $1,500 per wheel. The process starts when you work with a Champion stylist who will develop three concepts based on your input. (This consultation costs $500, plus a $3,500 fee for engineering and testing certification.) Once you have decided on a design, delivery takes between two and three months. And once the wheels are installed, you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your car is the only one equipped with those wheels.
