20 Unique Gift Ideas: Historical Headgear

12/01/2009

This auto racing helmet, offered by the Memorabilia Experience, a company based in Ontario, Canada, is a full-scale replica of the one that the late Ayrton Senna wore when he won the Formula One world championship in 1990 and 1991 while racing for McLaren-Honda. The Memorabilia Experience used an original, race-worn Senna helmet to craft 50 replicas, each of which is the exact shape as the original and bears the same paint colors, vents, liner padding, visor, and logos. Senna, who also won the F/1 world championship in 1988, was killed at age 34 in a crash in 1994 at the San Marino Grand Prix in Italy. He holds the record for the most victories at the Monaco Grand Prix (six), and his 41 first-place finishes overall are the third most in Formula One history.
